Doug Locke Returns with New Music, Vibe and Sound

Doug Locke Returns with New Music, Vibe and Sound

Doug Locke is an artist we interviewed a couple of years ago after he released a very emotional song and video about love, relationships and the tales we have as aging gay men.

#ThisCouldBeUS was a mega-success and our brother site, Kinkster MAG had the pleasure of interviewing Locke as it climbed to the top of the charts.

The Kinkster MAG team found him charming, driven and a kinkster of music.  When we heard he was coming out with new music, we had to catch up with him to find out what he’s been up to since his Kinkster MAG feature and to learn more about his latest single release, "Rendezvous" (feat. Kaleena Zanders).  The electric guitar and vocals in our opinion pay homage to Prince’s style of music.

Locke hasn’t publicly confirmed it, but his new single, "Rendezvous" is an invigorated sound that the dearly departed Prince was famous for for decades. It’s sound is hard to duplicate, but we believe Locke comes close.

After listening to Locke’s new single, we did a speed round interview to follow up with an artist Kinkster MAG named as an artist to watch some time ago. We're delighted to see he's still on the move.

1) What do you have planned for this release? Any appearances, special events, etc.?

This is something I wanted to give to the fans as a goodbye to the "Blue Heart" era, and as a welcome to 2017.  It is a great indicator of the artistic direction I am going in for the next EP.  There is also a special music video in the works.

2) What was the motivation for this single?

"Rendezvous" was such a breakthrough moment in the development of my sound.  I remember writing it with my producer Eric McNeely, and knowing this track was special.  Sonically it has a brash, unapologetic, funky vibe with an underground swag.  Thematically, I was inspired by some of my early encounters growing up in Houston, Texas.

"Rendezvous" is an anthem for freedom of sexual expression.  I wrote it from a place of taking ownership of one’s sexuality and not giving a damn about what anyone else has to say about it.  Having Kaleena Zanders on the track adds that special ‘je ne sais quoi.’  She sang on SNBRN’s “California” which was such a massive hit, and her voice is so incredible!  I’m stoked to have her on this track!

3) What other plans do you have for 2017 for your creative endeavors?

2017 is looking to be an exciting year!  I make an appearance in the upcoming feature film "Home Again" which stars Reese Witherspoon, and I’m looking forward to more acting opportunities this year.

In February I’m releasing “Locke: Live at Club Moscow” which is a concert film we shot at the end of 2016.  We will be doing the LA premiere on February 22nd.

Beyond that, I’m currently back cooking in the studio with my homeboy Eric McNeely who produced my “Blue Heart” EP.  I’m crazy excited about the new material.  I’m looking forward to revamping my live show to incorporate the new songs!

4) Any other accolades since we last interviewed you?

I had the opportunity to be the face of an International Bacardi print campaign last summer, which was an incredible experience!  I met a lot of amazing people on the shoot. On May 4th (International Anti-Bullying Day) I released a music video for my song “KING” which dealt with identity and self-acceptance.  Some highlights for me were headlining Portland’s Gay Pride and making TV appearances on “Great Day Houston” and “CBS Morning Show Los Angeles.”

HOW TO MEASURE

Kinkster NYC Sizing Chart

The best way to determine size is to measure one of your favorite fitting shirts first and comparing to our approximated size charts.

WIDTH: The body width is measured by laying the shirt flat on it's back, keeping it free from wrinkles, and measuring from one arm pit to the other arm pit.

LENGTH: The body length is measured from neck seam to the bottom of the T-shirt.

APPROXIMATE CHEST: Measure under arms around the fullest part of the chest. Be sure to keep tape level across back and comfortably loose.
